Executive Summary: Repurposing a containerized WordPress instance into a decoupled, REST-driven engineering dashboard and portfolio case study publisher.
1. Challenge & Context
Most IT infrastructure engineers view WordPress strictly as a legacy CMS bloated with PHP plugins and security patches. When tasked with real-time logging of autonomous AI agent actions, hypervisor modifications, and microservice builds, typical solutions default to heavy Elasticsearch/Kibana clusters, flat syslog dumps, or raw terminal scrollback.
The core dilemma:
1. **Raw syslogs (Loki / Syslog-NG)** are ideal for machine ingestion but dreadful for human-readable project summaries.
2. **Terminal transcripts and Markdown vaults (Obsidian)** are fast, but lack accessible, responsive web interfaces for remote inspection on a phone or client-facing portfolio presentation.
3. We needed a decoupled publishing endpoint that an automated agent orchestrator could programmatically post to via REST without human intervention, maintaining high-signal case studies and a live web timeline.
2. Architectural Solution
We deployed a lightweight, containerized WordPress + MariaDB 10.11 stack on our dedicated development node (dev-bench / 10.1.20.75) managed through Dockge.
Key architectural components:
1. **Headless REST API Authentication:** Rather than dealing with session cookies or interactive web logins, we generated programmatic WordPress Application Passwords for the administrative service account.
2. **Apache Authorization Header Passthrough:** Fixed the classic containerized Apache/PHP restriction where Authorization: Basic headers are stripped before reaching the REST API:
`pache
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule .* – [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ – [L]
`
3. **Internal Split-DNS Mapping:** Registered log.ittechstl.local on our Windows Server 2022 Active Directory split-DNS zone (AD1), allowing internal nodes to communicate without NAT loopback.
4. **Decoupled Automation Dispatcher (wp_logger.py):** Built a standalone Python module implementing categorized payload dispatching across three distinct taxonomies:
– Featured Projects (Comprehensive Markdown/HTML case studies)
– Code Vault (HTML-escaped, syntax-highlighted code blocks)
– Operational Logs (Real-time milestone timestamps)
3. Verified Outcomes & Telemetry
1. **Zero-Friction Publishing:** The AI coding orchestrator (Antigravity) can dispatch complete technical writeups directly to WordPress in under 500ms via publish_project_article().
2. **Instant Web Portfolio:** Produces clean, mobile-responsive case studies (like our RTX 4070 SUPER LLM optimization article) that can be reviewed remotely or shared directly with prospective MSP clients.
3. **Decoupled Architecture:** Heavy raw logs remain in our local Obsidian vault and Promtail/Loki syslog pipeline, while WordPress acts purely as the high-signal, public-facing project showcase.
